BOL Releases Critique of SPC Deep Sea Mining Model Regulatory Framework

Suva, Fiji. On March 17, 2016, Blue Ocean Law released “An Assessment of the SPC Regional Legislative and Regulatory Framework (RLRF) for Deep Sea Minerals Exploration and Exploitation.” BOL’s analysis of the RLRF, produced by the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) and funded by the European Union (EU), finds it lacking in both requisite indigenous and environmental protections under international law.
